Caldy Bowmen Archery Club was formed in 1968 as a two-member club. The founder, Colonel Truman and his wife Marcia registered the club with Cheshire County after they found a suitable area for archery. The ground, Paton Field was already a sports venue for Cricket and Rugby and the Caldy Club welcomed an additional sport. Shooting started in 1970 after sufficient new members joined from a local beginners’ course. Equipment was purchased with a loan from the Colonel and archery has continued to flourish at the same ground ever since.
The Club consists of over 50 members, of all ages from junior members to senior citizens. Club shooting sessions are relaxed and sociable but at all times upholding strict archery protocol since, obviously, safety is paramount. Although the Club is well represented at competitions throughout the region and beyond, many of our members shoot simply for relaxation and for the social atmosphere that exists. To make shooting more fun, the Club hold a number of competitions throughout the year.
Our outdoor ground at Caldy Rugby Club is used during the ‘outdoor season’ (April – September). Club shooting sessions are held on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, Friday’s and Sunday’s. Members may shoot on the outdoor field at other times but must not conflict with any other activity taking place. Our indoor location is currently at Leasowe Leisure Centre on Sunday mornings and at the Scout HQ, Sandy Lane, Heswall on Wednesday evenings. See ‘Contact Us’ page to view maps and directions.
